Analyzing another atheist vs. theist debate

A lively and (mostly) intelligent debate on Medium between an atheist and theist is reviewed and analyzed.

The question of whether God exists or not, is of course, a rather big one. But I find it entertaining and often humorous to observe the debates on Medium on this question. Certainly, writing clickbait headlines is part of writing on Medium or anywhere else, but one can find a significant number of posts that claim to prove either that God exists or he/she/it doesn’t.

Here’s an example of one using a mathematical equation to prove that God exists. The proof: multiply 111,111,111 by itself and see what you get. The responses generally expressed the hope that the author was not serious that this proved God’s existence. I hope so, too.

Here’s an example from an anti-theist who is quite confident that he has proven by sheer and simple logic that God does not exist. He says that God must have infinite power, but there are many infinities so God must have the largest one, and since there is no largest infinity, that proves God cannot exist.

I find it a bit difficult to believe that any such proof would be persuasive to anyone who is not already convinced of either position. I don’t believe that proof for or against God’s existence has ever been possible or ever will be possible. Should God, if…
