I agree that there is a “two minds” option that retains idealism, and suggested something similar near the end. For me, when I place this issue of evil and the separation from God along side other indications toward realism, such as our deeply embedded intuition, and the biblical story of creation, then I tend to think the material world is real and is not God per se. However, I still am a monist in the Pauli-Jung sense.
