Prudence, once again greatly appreciate your perspective. That definition of maya would certainly seem to resonate with Eddington's view of reality. I don't recall the reference to "discover" in Eddington and it doesn't seem consistent with his primary approach which is to say that what science describes as metrics or pointer readings is far from the reality of what is, and that science cannot reveal that to us. That seems more in line with Advaita Vedantism, yet he speaks as a committed Christian believer. I think he would totally agree with you on finding love at the end. Since the "background" to him is spirit, that is a logical conclusion.
