thank you SJ, see the above comment where the suggestion is freedom operates within constraints. Either of our own choosing or of constraints imposed on us. But constraints don't eliminate freedom or free will, they just provide some form of boundary. Unwanted and unbidden thoughts are part of those constraints but I can't see that they eliminate our choices, even how we deal with unwanted thoughts, as is implied in what you wrote. Isn't thought suppression a choice?
