Thanks Chris, that clarifies your understanding of this. I'm not very interested in getting into a proof texting contest as that could go on for a long time without any real conclusion. As I mentioned in the post that while I believe the Word is authoritative, like C.S. Lewis, I believe that there is truth to be found outside of the Word as well. Lewis provided some interesting examples from Greek myth. All must be tested against the Word, but as Schmidtalex pointed out, not everything may be as clearcut as you prefer. What is the truth, if any, contained in the Eastern ideas such as Atman and Brahman, what is the truth contained in the study and thoughts of the likes of James, Myers and Jung, and how does that possibly relate to Biblical understandings of God and the Spirit? I don't have the answers to that, but I do think that it is worthy of inquiry. I think you may feel that opening such a door even a crack will put my eternal destiny at risk. If I need to be right in my theology in order to be saved, then the blood of Jesus has been wasted because I am convinced that I am not right, not even close, and neither is anyone else. Thanks to God for grace we have received.
