Thanks for the response, Jacques. I have read other articles by these scientists and understand that they have adopted the Christian belief in God. I certainly agree that there are questions beyond the reach of human reason. But I also think that human reason is sufficient to make an informed and intelligent decision about the existence of God. Warranted belief is what philosopher Alvin Plantinga called it.
I am glad you are finding spiritual peace and support in your practice of Buddhism. There are those who note the benefits of spiritual practice on the well being of humans, such as Rupert Sheldrake. I believe that many if not most who are Christians do so for more utilitarian reasons than philosophical. By that I mean it is more important that it works for them than that they believe it somehow to represent the truth about the world. I, perhaps unfortunately, seem to have a need to know what the truth is, and while I fully understand I will never know the full truth or even accurate truth (at least on this side), but it does not stop me from trying.
