Thanks Frcmger, it seems that their emphasis on measurement demonstrates their intention to keep their assembly theory within the physical category and avoid metaphysics. But they do so by suggesting that information, time, memory and causation are all physical properties. I cannot see any proof or even evidence presented for that other than to avoid a metaphysical, dualistic or transcendent explanation. To that degree it looks very similar to panpsychism which, as Galen Strawson argued, you must agree that consciousness is inherent in matter if you are to remain within the physicalist camp.
