Thanks very much for this Alex. Your questions are excellent and deserve more thought. But, as an initial response I would say that “proving” the Bible is the inspired Word of God is as impossible as proving the existence of God. And perhaps like believing in the absence of the impossibility of indisputable truth, it is reasonable to say that one takes the authority of the Bible on faith and based on one’s personal knowledge, beliefs and commitments. I would go one step further and say based on what I believe to be the real operation of the Spirit of God in the heart and mind of the individual. As for compelling evidence, some would point to prophecies, changed lives, historical support, etc. I personally think that evidence is also very subjective. Ultimately I would say that I believe because I have been given that belief but that belief that was given is what allows me to see what I do believe I see.
