That is a great question and I need to reflect on it some more. But my initial thought is that this is what God gave us rational brains for. In my view I believe the belief I have is warranted, or justified, by the facts and evidence as I have understood it. Philosophers Alvin Plantinga and Richard Swinburne are good sources for the rationality of such beliefs. While many believe beliefs as I expressed are irrational, that is where reasonable debate can occur. As for the golden plates, I believe the evidence suggests that the origin of this writing is not divine. One example people DNA evidence that undermines the teaching that the lost tribes are in South America.
