The Greatest Day in the History of the Universe
Our current knowledge tells us that there have been five trillion, thirty-seven billion days since the universe we find ourselves in burst into being. For two and a half billion of today’s global population and perhaps fifteen or twenty billion of the about 120 billion humans who have ever lived, today — Easter Sunday — celebrates the most important day in the history of the universe.
The coming to life again after a most brutal death of a 30-something craftsman from a small, backward village in a strife-torn sliver of land about 2000 years ago is the fulcrum of universal history, or it is the greatest hoax in that same history. It serves as a cleaver, a sharp sword, a fork in the road of human choice and destiny.
There are many, and likely an increasing number, who consider themselves Christians but do not believe that the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth actually happened. This is more true in North America and Europe than in other Continents where traditional Christian believers continue to grow in numbers. It is understandable given the cultural milieu and the range of self-inflicted wounds by various Christian groups from abuse of children to conflation of extreme nationalism and what some consider Christian belief.
