There is no question that the actions of neurons in the brain have a connection to the mind and consciousness. Any time I drink alcohol I am reminded of that. It does not say, though, that the brain produces the mind, experience or consciousness. Hence, the ongoing mystery. William James' filter model is one idea how the brain can impact the mental without producing it.
