You are certainly right in saying that certain forms of belief about science and certain forms of Christian belief conflict. But, a foundation of Christian belief is that God reveals himself in two books: nature and scripture. Truth is non-conflicting or it can't be truth. It is the modernist way of literally interpreting scripture that has led to the conflict, as well as what some philosophers and scientists who speak as philosophers say (wrongly) what science is telling us. Properly understood, science and Christianity do not conflict as famed philosopher Alvin Plantinga explained in "Where the Conflict Really LIes."
