You are right Jeffrey, my exposure to their theories is limited and since I based this primarily on the Aeon article, it was likely dumbed down to be readably by people like me. I did also use what Walker and Davies wrote in From Matter to Life (have you read that?) and do not recall the discussion of the means or mechanism for the storage of memory. As you noted, the comment that it exists in the environment but also as an intrinsic property of all particles concerned and concerns me. I do note that it is not deterministic in that they say what is now is determined by causal functions as they describe, but the future is open, in part because life itself include us have the ability to alter the future.
